There was a time in my journey of self-discovery when I, like many others, mistakenly aligned myself with the “Moorish” identity—a path I followed in earnest, seeking to reclaim dignity, purpose, and knowledge erased by Colonial systems. The Moorish movement offered a powerful counter-narrative to the labels imposed upon so-called “Black” Americans, promising lawful standing and sovereign identity. Yet as I matured in study and spirit, I realized that what I needed was not a constructed nationality, but a return to my own.
Embracing my Lenape heritage as a Tùkwsit Clan national has been a transformative journey, rooted in reclaiming the stories and traditions of my ancestors. The Lenape people, known for their deep connection to the land and intricate social structures, offer a rich cultural legacy that shapes my identity today. This path has allowed me to move beyond imposed identities and connect authentically with my lineage, fostering a profound sense of belonging and responsibility.
Recognizing the importance of historical truth, I have dedicated myself to learning the Lenape language, customs, and governance systems. This commitment has not only strengthened my personal identity but also empowered me to contribute meaningfully to the preservation and revitalization of Lenape culture within my community. It is through this lens of truth and heritage that I continue to build a future grounded in respect for my ancestors and the enduring spirit of the Tùkwsit Clan.
